Vote November 5, For Sheriff

Experienced, Proven Leadership.

About Chan,

Chief Deputy Bryant has a long career in public service, and wishes to continue to serve her community as sheriff.

Chan was born in Charlottesville and raised in Greene County. She graduated from William Monroe High School; obtained an associates degree in applied science, majoring in police science from Piedmont Virginia Community College; and received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from James Madison University.

In March 1995 she joined the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office reserve unit where she served as an active member for 9 ½ years. She also worked with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad as an EMT starting in June of 1995, and in August of 1997 she worked as a deputy sheriff for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. After working in that capacity for a year and a half she began working for the Town of Scottsville as a patrol officer where she worked until joining the Albemarle Sheriff’s Office as a full time deputy sheriff in July of 2006. She has faithfully served Albemarle County since that time, rising to the rank of Sergeant in 2009, becoming the first woman to ever hold that position, and then being promoted to Chief Deputy for the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Office in 2015, another first.

As chief deputy sheriff she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office, acting in the sheriff’s capacity in his absence. Chan has worked to bring in excess of $100,000 in grant funding that has allowed the office to better carry out its mission to best serve the citizens of the county, without cost to the taxpayers. Her leadership has been recognized by the Elks when she was given their 2018 Law Enforcement Officer of the year award, and in December of 2018 she was recognized by her fellow deputy sheriffs as Deputy of the Year.

Outside of the office she serves as an executive board member for the Stonewall Jackson Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and also for the Arbor Board, an organization dedicated to services and shelter for human trafficking survivors, prior to its dissolution in 2016.

She resides in Scottsville with her husband, Earl and their nine year old son, Cameron.
